Jack Arts worked with Vintage Books to launch two Haruki Murakami’s novels:
To promote Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage, we created a tease and reveal campaign, which started with posters around London and the UK, featuring a coloured circle taken from the book’s cover. This was followed by a series of projections across the city, including Waterstones in Piccadilly to coincide with the book launch and signing by Murakami. For the final phase of the campaign, we used our billboard sites to reveal the full name and cover of the book. The campaign received nationwide coverage in the The Evening Standard, The Guardian and Time Out magazine, as well as across social media.
For the release of Murakami’s second novel Wind/Pinball we designed and created bespoke pinball machines, positioned in Waterstones, London, Piccadilly and Sauchiehall, Glasgow. Customers were encouraged to go head-to-head in a pinball battle, and were able to share their high scores on social media using the hashtag #murakamipinball, with the highest scores each day winning a signed copy of Wind/Pinball.
